Former Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan received his fourth intravitreal anti-VEGF injection at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) and was discharged on Tuesday after the procedure, hospital authorities confirmed.

According to the PIMS administration, the 74-year-old former premier was brought in for a scheduled follow-up treatment related to right central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO), a medical condition affecting blood flow in the retina. His condition was first diagnosed in late January, after which he began a series of eye treatments.

Imran Khan had earlier undergone similar injections on January 24, February 24, and March 23. On April 28, he arrived at the hospital for his fourth dose. Before the procedure, a team of ophthalmologists examined him and declared him clinically stable. Medical tests, including optical coherence tomography, showed improvement in his eye condition.

The hospital spokesperson stated that the injection was administered under strict medical protocols, informed consent, and microscopic guidance in an operation theatre. The procedure was carried out as a day-care surgery, and Imran Khan remained stable throughout before being discharged with follow-up instructions.

A senior doctor familiar with the case noted that such treatments usually involve three injections, while further doses depend on patient response and follow-up evaluation after several weeks.

Meanwhile, political debate continues over Imran Khan’s healthcare inside prison custody. Opposition leaders have raised concerns over transparency in his treatment, alleging restricted access to personal physicians and inadequate medical facilities. They have also demanded his transfer to a private hospital for better care.

The government, however, has rejected these claims, stating that Imran Khan is receiving proper medical attention under established procedures.
